There’s something deeply powerful about someone who doesn’t wait to be chosen—but chooses to be intentional about their growth, their journey, their future AND actively seeks out and commits to their growth journey.
When a mentee actively seeks a mentor, it speaks volumes. It says: I’m open to learning. I value wisdom. I believe in the strength of guided progress. It’s not about having all the answers—it's about being courageous enough to ask the right questions and willing enough to explore them with someone who's walked ahead.
They’re not just hoping to grow.
They’ve decided to.
They show up with curiosity, consistency, and a willingness to stretch.
They reflect, apply, and evolve.
Sakhile Moyo and I were introduced by a friend of mine Nobuzwe Mbuyisa. She took interest in her during her regular visits to the store where she (Sakhile) worked at. When Nobuzwe heard about her passion for food and cooking and her willingness to go back to this passion, she told her about me… this was in 2023 and the rest is history. “I am here to learn, you don’t have to pay me, I would like you to take me under your wing and mentor me”.
The pics in our aprons are from our very first encounter serving the @Let’sBreakBread1 Eatists (the day after we were introduced – she could not wait to start!!).
The rest of the pics are where she is either assisting with the culinary business admin (project related admin – sorting out recipes, shopping lists, etc) or doing back office work for our Strategic HR Consulting business.
Lately, she has started coming through and being part of our leadership development facilitation sessions – holding her own and not just shyly introducing herself but does so with such conviction and also throws in “ we are hoping to see you again at our Cook Offs where we will help your teams to Connect and Collaborate more” from time to time (PR moments!!!).
Sakhile isn’t here just looking for answers—she is building capacity. She owns the process. She asks the hard questions. She recommends. She takes the feedback. Her growth has not been just in skills, but in confidence, clarity, and leadership presence.
That’s the power of intention.
When that kind of drive meets the right support?
It’s not just growth.
It’s transformation.
There’s beauty in the vulnerability of asking for help.
There’s strength in the discipline to grow.
And there’s grace in walking that path with someone who's cheering for you, challenging you, and holding space for who you’re becoming.
To every mentee showing up for their future—you inspire more than you know. Keep going. It’s working. 💪🏽✨
